Two in political science receive
LAS international awards
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recognized international activities
of one student and one staff member in the Department of Political Science
during its annual international dinner on Monday, March 6, 2006.
Dana Schumacher, academic advisor in the Department of Political Science,
and Elizabeth Rock, a senior political science and international studies
major, were honored for their international efforts.
The evening also included a keynote address by Richard Mansbach, professor
of political science, on "Thoughts on a Globalizing World."
LAS faculty members who have participated in the Fulbright Scholar Program
and individuals who have received the ISU International Service Award
were also recognized including several in the Department of Political
Science.
The awards bestowed at the event included:
Dana Schumacher is the program coordinator of the international
studies major and minor in the College and received the LAS International
Staff Service Award. She serves as the academic advisor to students
with a primary major in political science and a secondary major in international
studies. Among her many responsibilities, Schumacher evaluates and approves
application of transfer and study abroad courses to the international
studies major and minor. She also coordinates an electronic newsletter
sent to international studies students.
Elizabeth Rock, a senior political science and international
studies major, has received the LAS Student International Excellence
Award. A minor also in Spanish, Rock has studied abroad in Spain and
Belize while at Iowa State. She was also enrolled in the first Arabic
course offered on campus, has participated in the Model United Nations
student group and served as an intern for the Iowa Council for International
Understanding. She plans to attend graduate school to study international
relations.
