Internships

Experience a Political Science internship at the local, state, national, or international level

Why Do An Internship?
The Department of Political Science believes that students who participate in an internship during their course of study will enrich their college educational experience. To encourage students to participate in these opportunities, the Department offers academic credit for internships related to political science. Internship credit is available to students who have completed at least six hours of political science credit and who have attained the academic rank of junior or senior. The purposes of the internships are to offer students the opportunity to experience practical application of the knowledge learned in academic courses, to explore career options and to make contacts and build networks that can assist in locating employment.

Internship Procedures
Students interested in an internship need to begin planning during their freshman and sophomore years. Students should work with the Department's Undergraduate Coordinator to include Political Science 499: Internship into their Program of Study. The internship credit is variable up to twelve hours, six of which can be applied to the major. Grading for Political Science 499 is on a satisfactory/fail basis. Internship credit is available to students who have completed at least six hours of political science credit and who have attained the academic rank of junior or senior.

Internships can be established through four mechanisms:

  1. Students can set up the internship on their own, and then work with the Department's Internship Coordinator to meet the requirements of Political Science 499.
  2. Students can contact the Department's Internship Coordinator who will provide information on internship opportunities.
  3. Students can work through the Liberal Arts and Science Career Services in 351 Catt Hall.
  4. Students interested in The Washington Center can work through LAS Career Services in 351 Catt Hall.
