Scholarship
established by political science professor
A scholarship in the Department of Political Science at Iowa State University
has been established by Young Kihl, professor of political science.
Kihl has created an endowed scholarship for an undergraduate student
majoring in political science. The Young W. Kihl Scholarship will be
awarded each year based upon the proceeds from the endowment. An initial
$350 scholarship will be awarded at the department's 2006 spring awards
luncheon.
A member of the Iowa State University faculty since 1974, Kihl is one
of the world's leading scholars in international relations. He has devoted
much of his career to expanding international programs and activities
at Iowa State through his teaching and participation in the ISU World
Food Institute, Institute on World Affairs and other programs.
"We are all in Young's debt for his long and distinguished service
to our department and for this wonderful gift that will keep alive his
remarkable commitment to learning and scholarship," said James
McCormick, professor and chair of the Department of Political Science.
McCormick says the department plans to seek to supplement the scholarship
with gifts from Kihl's associates and former students.
