Abdul Muhammad is a non-traditional graduate student with over 25 years of leadership experience in state government, non-profit, as an entrepreneur, and in the private sector. He has also delivered implicit bias and diversity and inclusion workshops for varied audiences across the country. Abdul has completed coursework for his Political Science M.A. and is currently wrapping up final revisions after his successful thesis defense in Summer 2019. Abdul’s academic focus is Public Management and Policy, American Politics, and Political Behavior. He served as a department TA for 3 semesters with 4 department faculty, and was nominated for the Graduate Teaching and Excellence award in Spring 2019. His research interests include public sector policy development, political and institutional behavior, and implicit bias. In August 2019, Abdul accepted the position as Tax Bureau Chief in the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division at Iowa Workforce Development.
